Fitness Tracking Tools || How I stay on track!

When I first started on my fitness journey, I found myself on an app/ website called calorie counter. There I met some lovely individuals who I still keep in contact with via Facebook. After really getting deep into health and fitness, I have found a few things that I like just a tad more. While calorie counter will still have a piece of my heart, it was time to move forward to better things.
There are three main tools that I use to track my progress.

  1. MyFitnessPal. I have had a rocky relationship with MyFitnessPal. There have been multiple others that I have attempted to switch to but for some reason I keep coming back to it. I enjoy the app for all of the verified foods that are on there (it has a green check next to it) and the convenience of having the scanner while on the go. Now, I don’t pay for the premium because I know my macros and my coach has access to set it up, but there is an option to pay for the premium. The premium allows you to put in your specific macros and choose different plans but for what I use it for, seems unnecessary.
  2. Recollections 2017 Planner. The planner gives me plenty of space to write in my training for the day, as well as, available space to make notes in the green shaded areas. I enjoy this because it also includes a space for “notes and thoughts” in addition to “weekly goals”. Following the planner, there is a notes section, stickers, a folder, and a clear plastic folder. This kind of space within the planner, allows me to be generous with my font and it is bound nicely so it doesn’t come apart in my gym bag. Now, you could definitely use a blank notebook, or whatever you find that you like, but this is a nifty planner that I found that has a ton of great space.
  3. Google Drive. Coach and I utilize Google drive for an abundance of things, but mostly to utilize the spreadsheet with my progress on it. It is easy to manipulate from both of us, so it allows us the freedom to really be in great communication on what my training stress, weight, and training was for the week.

Some may find it silly that I use a paper planner instead of using the Drive app on my phone to follow my training, but I am usually not the type who has my phone in my hand while I am training to aide in distractions. I like to take my time in the gym as a time for me to be in my own head space, without distractions to get things done. This method allows me to do that.

I hope that you found some inspiration if you are just starting or continuing on your journey. Holding yourself accountable with one or all of these methods, I believe, is the key to success. Sometimes, especially for me, I need something in black and white in front of me in order for the motivation to continue. This allows for that.
