Sometimes it can be difficult to stay focused and attentive to the tasks that need to be accomplished. Often times, the mind starts to wander and then we find ourselves wondering where the time went and why we have nothing accomplished. It can really becoming discouraging and the panic can set in.
However, there are 5 simple steps that can be taken to keep your mind sharp and focused to get the most out of your time available.
  1. De-Clutter Your Workspace. You may or may not be hysterically laughing at me and shaking your head because “I don’t know how much crap you have sitting on top of your desk.” I get it. However, it takes just a few minutes to purge whatever you have going on. Get rid of the immediate garbage  items - that includes the sticky notes that you are sure you can still figure out your chicken scratch- and the rest can sit neatly in the corner of your desk for the moment. Give yourself some room to breathe!
  2. Disconnect From the Phone and All Social Media. A simple way to accomplish this is to put your phone on airplane mode and put it in your desk drawer, purse, pocket or anything that will provide you with an out of sight, out of mind approach. You don't need it. Not right now.
  3. Relax Your Mind. This may seem like a silly approach but studies have shown that classical or light-airy music provides the mind with clarity and allows it to think more clearly. I am attesting to this. Matter of fact, there is a Spotify station called "work-day music". I highly recommend.
  4. Manage and Plan Your Energy. Now that you have your “set-up” ready, you can effectively plan what needs to be done. Grab a paper and list your top 3 must-do's and the others can follow behind. Many choose to do the quick easy tasks first but I challenge you to do just the opposite. Some of the best planning can come from scheduling the quick, fun tasks after lunch so the work day ends on a high note.
  5. Positive Self-talk. Generally, most of us don’t reward ourselves with words of affirmation after what has been proven to be a great session of work. If you feel like you got a lot accomplished and you produced some great things, tell yourself about it! Pat your back! You deserve it!

Small details can really make a huge impact on a productivity schedule. Sometimes there is limited time for so many tasks. Going into your day with your mind clear and focused will only aid in effective completion. Happy Productivity!
