After June book club, I searched for some other suggestions by some book club lists on Pinterest. Thanks to thriftbooks.com , I was able to pick up some used books. Thriftbooks.com is a wonderful site that has gently used books (they use the same book rating as Amazon) and also has a rewards program. ALSO, it is free shipping after $10. I was able to snag three books for $11.
Of those books, I read “Love Me Back” by Merritt Tierce. I put this on my do not recommend list simply because it was more explicit than I would like. I did like that it had me hooked from page one but I also didn’t like that it did that because I really wanted to read something else but keep coming back to this. It is messy and it is goes head first into life that is actually lived. It is a very raw novel with intent to make you feel. And that it did.
On my audible this past month, I listened to “13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl” by Mona Awad. This hit home in a number of circumstances with me, it was also very raw with emotion. I also put this on my do not recommend list but the more I think about it, the more I want to go back and listen to see if I could like it. There are parts of the book that leave me longing to hold the character and tell her everything will be fine and parts where I want to scream “THIS IS NOT WHAT LIFE IS LIKE”.
