When a new year approaches, we often will make personal changes, such as, rearranging the house to make the space appear different, buy new clothes to help us feel different, or sort through our cabinets to rid of the old. Often times, though, we skip over our work stations or family filing system because it is an out of sight, out of mind kind of thing. Below are some great organizational tips to help 2017 move smoother. These can both be applied to those, like myself, who work a full time gig and have household responsibilities that I need to consistently be organized for.
GET NEW SUPPLIES: I will admit. I am an office supply junkie so really, this is just an excuse to get more. BUT, truth be told, getting rid of those pencils and pens that you never really were in love with anyway, and replacing them with pretty designs or a smooth writing tip can be a game changer. Target has some really gorgeous office supplies, not that I am enabling (or am I?!)!
REVAMP YOUR ORGANIZATIONAL SYSTEM: I am notorious for sliding papers into my “need to file” box and never really touching it again. Now, what this should scream at me is to recycle it and move on with my life BUT some of those things are legally related so, I should probably file them, and then move on with my life. Anyway, creating an organizational system that suits your needs can be overwhelming BUT searching on interest for ideas of www.strangecharmed.com can help give a good base to start.
TAKE CARE OF NEW BUSINESS, THEN CHIP AWAY AT THE OLD: So, that file sitting on my desk that things are piling up on? Yes, those things should be taken care of first. Then we can move on to dealing with old business that is in the so-called current “filing system” I have.
CONTINUE TO TWEAK: As household needs change (kids getting old, more insurance and things acquired), so will your filing needs. Thus, I would make it a hefty habit that once a month, circle back around to the filing system and make sure that it is still current with your lifestyle. From there, you can adjust and revamp it, if needed.
I hope these tips and tricks found you with a new revival for your office and filing needs. Sometimes, we all just get caught up into our everyday routine that when we are propositioned to finding that paper, we can’t. It is then generally because we haven’t filed it properly. Moving forward and developing a good system will be worth while.
