One of the things that I thrive on the most is continuing education. I don’t mean in the traditional education sector, but educating myself on industry or personal development topics that further my knowledge and growth within me and my company.
As most of you know, I work as a branch manager for a staffing firm here in Michigan. I love what I do but as the market changes in our industry, best practices evolve and new laws are adopted, it is best to continue to educate myself so I can further educate my staff.
It is no secret that I thrive on personal development and I think that whether you are graduated, still in school, never attended school, or whatever you situation is, developing yourself into being the best possible version of your authentic self both in and out of your career setting is so beneficial to growth. It is also important to be an expert in the field that you are serving.
I have a few resources that contain short articles that come to my work email to start my day. I usually arrive 10 minutes before I am to technically be working and that it is all it takes me to get on a good, positive note for the rest of the day.
The Harvard Business Review (link here) has a very wide variety of topics you can select that you want to receive articles on. The topics are ideas and advice for leaders in business. The wonderful thing is it sends an approximate 50 word paragraph on the overall pep talk from the article and includes the link if I want to read deeper. Some days I only have time for the paragraph and will flag it in my email to read when I have some down time.
The Staffing Industry Analysts (link here) allows me to see what is happening right in our industry. It gives great articles on trends we should be paying attention to and markets that are becoming “hot” to potential find prospects for servicing.
The Hustle (link here) is a fun one that helps keep me in the know of snarky news to pay attention to. It is the perfect dose of adult gossip with real news happening that I love to actually read. I don’t listen to the news, nor do I read the paper, but this site? This site is gold.
These daily newsletters provide me the best of both worlds. They keep me up to date on my industry, my career title, and well-rounded in true happenings that can create dynamic conversation with my peers. Each week, the articles provide me with a sense that I am developing personally into my overall role here but help to also make me feel like I am continuing to grow and thrive.
If you are struggling on where to start, assess what you do for a living and google sites that provide daily or weekly emails on that topic. Next, find a website that provides you with news (or any other topic that you like).
I don’t get them sent to my work email but I do have a few emails that I subscribe to that fuel my soul for the week on a personal level.
First, Laura Kelly from the “You Might Not Like It” podcast has just started a Monday motivation email and I am LIVING for it.
Second, Rachel Hollis sends out a weekly email on Sunday (link here). I don’t always get to watch the Start Today Morning show on Instagram so this is a good way to keep in the know and let her breathe a little fire into me.
Find things that set your soul on fire or things you want to know more about and subscribe to that. It is SO worth it to continually educate yourself on a personal level that trends you forward. This is just a simple, weekly or even daily way to do that. I hope that maybe you found someone new to follow or it has sparked ideas in you to propel you forward! Happy reading my friends!
